Well ok it's only the local guides pet show but my daughter who is in the Rainbows is over the moon.  It was her sixth birthday yesterday and she wanted to enter eddie in the pet show.

A trip to Pets at home got us a fabric packaway small dog/cat carrier, plenty of room for Eddie to stand fully erect.  This had a zip up door in the roof as well as side allowing us to open it up letting Eddie peer out and the children (encouraged to be gentle) to stroke him.

They didn't have a category for chickens/roosters so went into misc competing against chinchillas & a goldfish.  He got loads of attention, seemingly not many pet chickens in our area, and was the star of the show.  And when he got first in his category my daughter was proud as punch.

Eddie & the rest of the chooks celebrated his success on a special portion of mealworms before bed time.  He promises not to let the success go to his head & still be the same Eddie we all love.

hi fat hen,

really pleased for your daughter, unfortunatly most the kids around here would not have a clue what a chicken/rooster looked like :(

Congratulations Fat Hen, Eddie and your daughter.

Your info on where to find a suitable carrier has pre-empted a possible future question, so thanks for that.

This forum is great, I have learnt so much in a few days!

Not much different round here, I know Silkies are a bit funny looking for chickens but an awful lot of people thought he was a small dog.

When told he was a cockerel/rooster the next question almost universally was does he lay eggs? No pictures from the show but I have some nice ones of him strutting his stuff in the garden when I get sorted with posting piccy's I'll post some, he really is a beautiful bird.
