Battery, Energiser and Chargers? Which one help.....
« on: August 13, 2010, 11:50 »
A right dilema  ??? ???  I currently have a large run (approx 30ft square) that has a 6 foot wire fence with 2 x electric cable/tape approx 5 inch and 10 inch distances off the ground around it.  This was all set up by my oh who borrowed the battery, energiser n charger used for horses from a friend who didn't need it at the time.  Well, as luck would have it my oh is now working abroad and the friend needs it all back.... yikes...
The run is approx 200 feet from our house and we live way out in the countryside with lots of foxes so I definitely need the electric cabling..
As you could fit my knowledge of this subject on the back of a postage stamp!!  Could someone perhaps recommend a type/make of battery/energiser/charger that they are using that has stood the test of time??  Our current set up is that every week I pop the battery in the wheel barrow and charge it up in the house for the day.  It would need to be a battery that holds a good amount of charge as in the winter I will need to leave it on all day for about 3 days (leave in the dark and home in the dark from work!).   Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

2 years ago we got electric fencing, but never used the electric bit!  But the energiser runs off a leisure battery, and the battery is trickled charged with a solar panel charger we got from Ebay.  I know there are people on here who use electric fencing, so can give you more info, but I just thought I'd mention the solar power bit, might be better for you out there in the wilds!  :D

:)Thank you GrannieAnnie...  I spoke to a nice man at our local 'Scats' country store and he's advised me on a system where i don't even have to have a big battery!  Apparently it's supplied by somewhere called Country Fencing (they only supply Scats) and runs on D Cell batteries which can be recharged... Sounds a bit too easy but hey ho - nice thing about buying local as if it doesnt do the job I can take it back :D :D

or consider having power put down your garden, we did that and had some lights put in at the same time (will be great in winter) cost more than the battery and charger was going to, but much more convenient and it wont go flat!
