Is Mini broody again?
« on: August 09, 2010, 11:33 »
Hi all,
We popped our chicks into the big coop last night and were up at the crack of dawn drinking coffee in the rain and keeping an eye out for the babies.  Mini is a blackrock bantam, well she's small and looks like a blackrock. She was the hen that hatched the chicks and she hasn't come out of the coop at all this morning.  Can anyone tell me if she could be broody again (chicks are 9 weeks) or is she annoyed that the kids are back?
We have lifted her out of the coop to check she is ok, and she has eaten and drank, but then took herself back to sit on the plastic eggs we have in there.
Any suggestions please?
3 dogs now, 2 passed RIP Poppy and Paige, one wonderful husband and a new adventure on this wonderful island

sounds broody to me. 2 of mine have just gone broody - 1 has chicks about the same age as yours plus an appenzeller has now joined her  >:(
Staffies are softer than you think.

Thanks for your reply Joyful.

She came out for a few hours late afternoon.  But this morning it's the same all over again. Hey ho... can't understand why she would want to do all that sitting again.. poor thing.
Thanks again
Kathie

It was suggested to us that we dip her bottom in a bowl of cold water but I think that is cruel. She has been bullied (see other post) so we thought it could be that she was keeping out of the way. I suppose time will tell.

My Blackrock Clara has done exactly the same, her chicks now 9 weeks old and she seems to want to start again. Not impressed that I keep turfing her off the eggs and won't let her sit

Hi Tiggersmate,
This is day 3 of constant eviction, and she is not very happy and is very vocal, good thing we have no near neighbours!!  Hubby suggested we let her sit again.. on turkeys or peacocks!!!

LOL.............Everytime I evict Clara she goes chuntering and squawking around the field all fluffed up then stands staring at the new chicks in the broody coop. She's just going to have to get over it as the broody is currently occcupied and I've no space to let her sit at the moment.
They're so funny aren't they?
