Hello,

Am new to chicken keeping and we have only had our four chooks for a couple of weeks. They have settled in really well and have all started laying. I noticed today that one of the girls has not folded her wing into her body. It hangs down as far as the top of her legs. I have checked her over and can extend the wing, both sides feel the same and she is not out of sorts. When I put her down she had a good flap of both wings. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong with her?

did she come with this problem or has she just developed it?
u say she flaps it with out anypain? it cant be broken, maby shes tore a ligoment or musle but then she would be in pain.... this is a tricky one, if shes not in pain then i spose all u can do is leave it, maby strap it to her back for a cupple weeks, but to be honest if u r that worryed i woul take her to the vet for an x-ray to really see whats going on.

One of my chickens had the same thing (I posted a question about it a while ago with pictures if you can be bothered to hunt that down to have a look and see if it's the same)
I took her to the vet and he said that she'd damaged it and it would just heal by itself.
He also said that when ever you can if you tuck it under for her, so that it doesn't drag on the floor or anything.
After about a week my chicken's wing was fine again

Thanks for the replies. I have taken some pics, just have to work put how to put them on here! She doesn't seem to be in any pain at all. We have had them since the begining of July and they are 22 weeks old, she has only just developed the problem today. She is eating well and laying. I will keep a close eye on her, fingers crossed she gets better.
