I would be very grateful for any help regarding the picking of Rhubarb.
I keep seeing articles where it says that Rhubarb should not be picked and eaten the first year.
However reading the RHS Encyclopedia it says pick sparingly the first year, but do not pick new rhubarb grown from seed.

I have two crowns planted earlier this year which were obtained from existing old plants and one bought crown.
All are gowing nicely and each has several nice sticks ready for picking.

So, is it safe to eat them ??

If not can anyone tell me why ?

The reason for not picking is to allow the plant to build strength into the crown.  If you feel it is strong enough then do follow the "pick sparingly" advice.

I have rhubarb in my garden which have been there for three or four years, and I want to transplant them to the allotment. When is best, I,m guessing autumn? and will I have to treat them as new next year, eg not pick it?
