Proximity to the water supply would be my first priority having overlooked this when I took on mine.....humping 20-30 cans of water 50m every night kinda brings it home.

I would have to agree to the above.

Nearly everything can be soreted out on a plot given time.  If the water tap is a long way away though you will curse every night you have to go watering.

I would also look at shade - from boundary trees etc.  Some things tolerate shade but others need sun, and if your plot is constantly shaded, you will really struggle with courgettes and beans and peas and tomatoes in particular.

Oh watch out for trees!!  and not just for their shade........ if you are within about 15ft of them the roots will rob all the goodness and moisture from the soil and you'll find it very hard to grow anything decent

Ease of access for deliveries - even it's free manure, free water butts, free timber for compost heaps and cold frames you don't want to be doing a day's manual labouring just to get stuff on site.

one other thing is the soil, or if like mine and you can't see it, what can you see???
i had first choice for 11 new plots, 1,2,3 along top all south facing and 50m max from tap, 4,5,6,7 down the side and west facing covered in brambles and a trec from tap, 8,9,10,11 all north facing with high trees on the south side!
i had one walk around and did not even consider 4-11

so 1 i could clearly see lots of stone and bricks among the grass, and it turns out i was right as one side of the plot is full of them, plot 3 was grass but a thick line of bramble along the back and its taken him agea to get rid, my plot, plot 2 all i could see was grass and a few weeds
