Which company for my seeds and bulbs?
« on: August 08, 2010, 23:47 »
Does anyone have any views about which company is the best to get my seeds and bulbs from, mail order?

I've tried a couple but have mixed feelings about them.  I don't know if it's the done thing to name names but personal recommendations would be most welcome.

It's very hard to beat Moles Seeds for cost and quality.

The only problem is that they come in large quantities, so you either a) have to plant a lot, b) seed share or c) buy one that will store well and keep you going for a few years.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I like Real Seeds, Seeds of Italy, Fothergills, and Moles for bigger orders for the lotty. I like the Garlic Farm and I use Robinsons sometimes for specific seeds that I can't get anywhere else.  I use Wilko a heck of a lot and have just got some half price seeds from them for next year. Their cheapo 26p a packet seeds have been brilliant.  If you have an allotment association nearby they will run a discount seed scheme and have things like onions, spuds and garlic etc at discounted prices, so you could join up  :)

I order smaller amounts and use Kings, they send them through quickly, have a lovely catalogue to look at through the winter ( my favourite bit!)  My parents have used them for years and seem to have good germination rates, This is my second year with no problems and they post to France very reasonably too.  Normally around £1 for a packet.

seeds of Italy are good, but for a lot of stuff I use DT Browns as they charge no p&p on seed only orders and the seeds have been reliable :)

oh don't forget Wilkinsons

Just realised that this is General Gardening.....not veg gardening so I think probably not the above. ::)

But I do buy my spring bulbs from Wilkinsons :)..........most of my flower seeds have been Sutton seeds :)

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
