I have a second year vine which I tried to kill this year by pruning it at the wrong time   - - -it survived and has now produced a multitude of fruit - - -  each bunch in miniature - - -

have i done  something wrong or is it just a small type of grape

Hard to tell without knowing the variety or seeing pictures - however in general the more "bunches" you have the smaller the grapes.

Grapes are very small when they first form so it might be just that it is late fruiting, bearing in mind the haircut you gave the vine 

Just wait and see how they grow

Multitudes usually results in lots of small grapes unfortunately. If you know the variety name, you can find out whether its a spur prune type or a cane prune type. Each is a slightly different technique so it's good to know in order to maximize your fruiting. If you don't, then possibly a good garden centre might recognize the fruit and advise you.
