Just had to tell someone...

...I am getting 2 chooks in a few weeks.  Have managed to convince hubby that its a good idea, he's even agreed to them being at home rather than the allotment.
Going for light sussex bantams, have to keep it small!  Although they are still eggs at the moment
Just had to share.

How old will they be when you get them Ness :?:

I would say Point of Lay (about 16 weeks old) are best for first time chook keepers  :!:

My friends got a broody, we've just got the eggs to go under her, so no guarantees, but fingerscrossed.  16 weeks will give me time to move house and construct a house and run (I hope!). Am sooo excited! :tongue2:
May be pestering you all again in a few months!

Congratualtions.
I only got my hens a couple of weeks ago and they are fab. My husband took some convincing at first but now he loves them, so i'm sure yours will come to love them to. They have such great personalities and are fun to watch, quite relaxing actually..
So good luck and have fun.

Its a weird thing with my hubby, now hes agreed to having chickens its the best idea in the world!
We're hoping for not too many cockerels although we have got someone who'll take them, and its not for the pot.  If the worst comes to the worst I will buy a couple of pullets, but it would be so satisfying to have grown them too.
I'm hoping they'll lay at some point (thats one of the selling points to hubby), I choose light sussex because of their good laying abilities, heres hoping yours start soon slowef.
Speak soon

I'd love to keep a few chooks but the garden is too small and the council won't allow them on the allotment!

Still there is a guy locally we can get free range eggs from and i can pretend they're from ours!

How small is too small seadart  :?:

My garden is about 30ft x 40ft and my two chooks think it's perfect  :D

30" X 40"? I thought they had to have masses of space! A quiet word with the OH is in order here I think!
