Potatoe question

Not sure if this question ought to be on the cooking topic but I have grown Yukon Gold potatoes this year (2nd year of growing spuds) and once again when I have boiled them some of them have just fallen into mush. Why does this happen and should I  be leaving them for a while before eating them. I have let them dry for a couple of days. :(

Different potatoes have different amounts of starch in them, so the lower the starch the quicker they'll boil ( I think it's that way round) So it may be that some of the potatoes have more starch, so the ones with the lower levels are getting over cooked

I think that they need less boiling than other varieties. We grew them last year and remember hearing that. When cooking, just simmer them and use a fork or knife to test when ready.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

I've found that all my home grown spuds, no matter earlies or main etc,  have cooked more quickly that shop bought ones, and that they 'turn' very quickly.  Adjust your cooking times and test earlier to see if ready.

DD is also right - steaming is great with lots of lurpack....mmmmmm
