Apart from picking the blighters off by hand and squishing them is there any sort of safe spray I could use on my veg please?

They are rampaging through the brassicas at the moment. I covered some of the patch with chicken wire to keep pigeons off and they recovered but now they are under threat again. There are days when I wonder if it's all worthwhile.

This year (like most of you I know) I have been doing battle with slugs, pigeons, black fly, green fly, red fly, and now caterpillars. And that's just the ones I can identify

My newly planted fruit trees are also swamped by fly and some have leaf curl. I spend so much time looking on internet or in books or on here asking for help I'm wondering if it's all just too much hassle.

Sorry just a bad day I guess.
I wonder if it's time to invest in one of those great big cages..........

I had the same problem as you last year with my Brassicas so this year mine are covered with 3m wide debris netting and so far I have no problems with Caterpillars, on one of the threads I started is a photo of it in action.
