Onions going over
« on: July 04, 2010, 13:33 »
Has anyones onions started going over yet?  Most things on my plot are late but some of the march onion sets are falling about 4 weeks earlier than last year.  Is there any thing I can do to stop them all going sooner rather than later?

Onions going over is the first sign of the ripening process. If your onions are large enough then let them take their course.
My onions ( Bed. Champs) are autumn sown and began falling over a month ago so I have staked them to keep the leaves upright. That way the leaves can continue to swell the bulb, and they have done. But now the leaves are beginning to turn brown, so it won't be long before I start lifting.
