One of the older RHR hens was hiding last night, she had what looked like a burst egg all around her vent- it was very manky.  I washed her and put her in the ´quarantine´ box.  This morning she was still alive, but she won´t drink/eat.  She has water with antibiotics in and I have put her in a shady bit of the garden fenced off from the others with water and food.
At the moment I am in town at the library-  I don´t know if she will be alive when I get back home.  Hens are such a worry at times

You seem to be doing all you can for her, but the only thing worrying me is if she has any of the shell, membrane left in her. How do you feel about slipping on a latex glove, coating a finger in vaseline and sseing if you can feel any? If any is left in it could cause an infection  . If you aren't too sure perhaps get a vet to check her over.

I´d had a check, I could not find anything inside her.  By he time we had gotten back from the shops she had drunk quite a lot of her antibiotic water.  This afternoon the temperatures got up to well over 40 deg and henny died   We had put her in a little shallow water to try to cool her down, but it didn´t work   The other hens are suffering with the heat too, we have soaked the ground in the shaded bit of the garden, they are all sitting in mud not looking too happy.

Sorry to hear about your hen, oliveview.  You must be frying over there.  We're in the mountains in Granada, and its a little bit cooler, but even so the hens are spending most if their time in the pond at the moment.  I hope we don't have any problems, it's my first summer with hens.

So sorry she died hope the others are ok I don't know how you cope in such heat we're all melting away and it only in the top 20s here
