june bettles
« on: June 23, 2010, 13:47 »
about a month ago i posted about an unknown beetle attacking my plants. They managed to eat about half a plum tree, mauled my raspberry canes , savaged my apples and maybe ate a good portion of my potato leaves. I may be wrong about the above but this has never happened to me before ( parden the pun!)

I identified them as june beetles. Apparently they emerge every year and after a good feed bury themselves in the lawns around and about and then lay grubs to do the same again next year!

How do i prevent these horrible creatures eating my crops!

Here's some info on them:

No idea whether or not you can get the specified treatment in the UK but any garden centre could recommend something similar. Best to start treatment asap as they can spread quickly. Much as I hate chemical treatments myself, with some pests there's little choice.
