Hello - I live in the USA - in California - San Fernando Valley area. I have an American Game Hen - Bantam that wandered into my yard one day in January and has been here ever since. She started laying in March - eggs about the sizeof a chocolate easter egg of a popular brand here in the US. Now she has a clutch of 7 eggs and is sitting in my moms planter, camouflaged by a foxtail fern. I don't know if the eggs are fertile or not - altho there is a rooster a few houses down. I know this because I hear him every day. Hens voice went strange - sounded like someone tried to strangle her. My question is (and you all probably think this is pathetic - lol) how long should I leave the eggs there? I don't want to dash her hopes if they are fertile, but I don't want her to sit forever and ever if they are not. She is a sweet hen - likes to come by for a chat and a nibble in the mornings and afternoons. She gets grain and laying mash and all the table scraps I have to feed her and she loves salad greens and shredded carrots. I am hoping someone might have had a similar experience. I love animals and tend to feed whatever critters come around - squirrels and possums too. Many thanks in advance for any thoughts you might have.
