Any ideas what causes hollow courgettes? Surely it can't be lack of water!

Hi Shaun

They're still small (about 5ins) and only hollow at one end. it's as if the courgette has got dried out but hard to see how that can happen in this weather.

Sorry to hear that. I've got mine in drain tubes so they don't get their feet too wet. Hope it dries out for you soon over t'other side of Pennines.

How deep is the hollow? A few of mine have a slight hollow where the flower has come out, that bit shrinks a little and dries up.

Hollow as in with a hollow core rather than with a dip, grannieannie. I've had the same thing with cucumbers before but not courgettes.

My bet is a shortage of a trace element / mineral but I have no idea which one.  Plant into pockets to include plenty of manure or compost.  For this year's ones, you may want to water with manure or compost tea
