Chuffed!!
« on: June 18, 2010, 16:27 »
After the rain we had last week, together with the good weather we've been having, my lettuces have grown enormous (the size of cabbages!). I didn't want to waste any if I could help it, but there is only so much lettuce 2 of us and my parents can eat. My OH said I should speak to our local fruit and veg shop to see if they would buy them off me, so yesterday I did. I took my first batch this morning, and they were so impressed, they asked if I can supply them with more!  :D I'm so chuffed! Looks like I'll be sowing more seeds later!!

No two gardens are the same. No two days are the same in one garden.

Be careful you don't fall foul of any rules that prohibit sale of produce. Certainly the lottie sites here do.

Oh and don't forget to give the taxman hit share  :D

I don't have to worry about rules prohibiting sale of produce, as I grow in my garden (I'm still waiting for an allotment, which I've now been told is now 5years  :( ) As for the taxman....  ::)

Sorry, not sure if there are any small headed iceberg lettuces, unless you pick them early. Cos usually stay fairly small and compact. Or if you're struggling to eat whole lettuces, you could grow cut and come again leaves, so you can just pick what you need.

I grow a mini iceberg, the seeds are available to buy almost anywhere. :)
Cheese makes everything better.

Yep same as ice, I grow mini green iceberg.  T&M sell the seeds.  They are supposed to be tennis ball size but mine always seems bit bigger than that.  Tight packed so lots of lettuce on one plant, if unlike my OH you eat a normal size portion you might get away with one between two.  they taste very nice.  Bit slower to get to cutting size than my gems.
