potting up onion sets
« on: June 15, 2010, 19:37 »
has any body or do any of you pot on your onion sets when you get them?    was thinking about it today, you put them in and for me they stay weak for a while and are open and not strong enough to deal with the elments and pests for a good few weeks, i was gonna try paper pots????  i have been hit this year with onion fly on my red barron and fen early whites, any body else?

Done this for the past three years that I have had a Lottie and it werks a treat for me. My problem is storing the beggars. Last season i cut the tops off directly after harvesting  and they all rotted within a month.

Definitely a case of once bitten twice shy.
I did it because i wanted them to fit in the boot of the car easier to take home and thought if I take the tops off it will make more space    ::)
