i prep'ed a bed really well and bought 12 2yr crowns, planted them in begining of april.
6 gignlim have all sent up a single spear, ferns grown and some in flower, happy days, i'll wait 2yrs to harvest
6 pacific purple have done nothing, might they shout next year or should i order some new crowns??

Some varieties are a lot slower to start sprouting than others. Be patient a while longer and if they're not up in another month, then see if you can order in more. 12 spears isn't enough really for an asparagus lover

THANKS, Glad to hear they may just be slow starters.
Would like more plants but plot always short on space. Luckily no-one else in house likes asparagus and theres noway i'll be encouraging them to try it fresh and appreciate the flavour  (it's all mine)  hehehe

I planted my first asparagus this year.  It looked like a fair few of them had died but today the last one finally raised it's head over the parapet.  It was a Pacific Purple too.  That's now nine out of nine.

I squeezed 24 plants in a 4m bed - gijnlim from Kings - 100% take and although they're slender they're all about 1m high. Need string and stakes to stop them flopping but v happy with them
