Runner ducks and grit
« on: June 14, 2010, 12:33 »
First time posting on the forum,  although I have been lurking for a while.

I have 2, 8 week old runner ducks - which are the cutest funniest little things!   Only had them for a couple of days,  although skittish they seem to be doing OK!!    Should I be giving them poulty grit?  I haven't given them any so far - are they too young?  What do you recommend?

Thanks for your help

Hi there,

I too am new to the forum. At 8 weeks old, they will need grit in their crops to grind food. if they are almost full grown then you might need ordinary poultry grit rather than the small size chick grit.
If they are free-ranging then they will probably find their own grit anyway, but you can offer it to them in a bowl and they will take what they need. Don't worry if it doesn't go down much.
Hope that helps
