I've just been down the allotment where upon inspecting the six pumpkin plants a fellow gardener gave me over a month ago my daughter pointed out that they are producing courgettes.
My out-of-date allotment gardener's handbook says early June is the last date for planting out pumpkins do I stand any chance of having any success if I manage to find some whoppers or otherwise at the gardening centre and plant them out now or within the next few days?

Once I saved the seeds from the small orange Halloween style pumpkins I grew and I got both pumpkins and marrows on the same plant. The marrows started green but turned the same orange colour of the pumpkins.

If your'e going to try some more seed don't go for whoppers (as they won't be ripe before the frosts come), but grow the small, Halloween type.

This is what happened last year with a plant I gave to a neighbouring plot holder that I grew from seed saved from a trailing marrow, grown near pumpkins.

At this stage the fruit were about 12" long and got bigger.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Thanks for you comments, but I meant is it too late to buy some big pumping plants (whoppers) and plant them out now?

If you can get hold of big plants, possibly not, but what plants are left at this time of year are not going to be the best ones to say the least!
