Pyle Wyandottes
« on: June 10, 2010, 10:53 »
I am confused again  ::)

I am reading about colours and how the Pyle Wynadotte is made.

Can someone clarify for me what exactly a Pyle Wynadotte is as opposed to a Red Pyle (or any other colour).

I read an old thread somewhere that said Grant Brereton created the Pyle Wyandotte by using a Pyle Leghorn to get the recessive white gene (not sure what a Pyle Leghorn is either :() but then there was talk about Pyle and Splash being the same thing, just named differently across the breeds - that confuses me even more as I thought Splash came from the blue gene.

if you take a look at this website it has a number for the wyandotte club of Great Britain

http://www.poultryclub.org/breed_clubs.htm
these will be the best people to speak to regarding breed standards, markings etc.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Was it this thread?

It does.  When you have two copies of the blue gene it dilutes black to white (with a few blue feather here and there)

So if you have blue under another coour, like with Dorindas Blue-buff brahmas, those 25% of chicks which inherit two copies of the blue gene, the blue is diluted completely to white, but the buff parts remain buff (or lemon!) and the colour is called lemon pyle.

If you take a copper black Marans and add Dominant white you would end up with red pyle (the black feathers are become white, but the red colouring on the hackles and etc stay the same (I think... don't believe me, I'm struggling with this too!)

That's the one - complex subject but what you say makes sense.

I've hunted high and low for pics of birds simply called Pyle as opposed to a specific colour Pyle and I still have no idea.  I have emailed Grant Brereton and I am hoping he will give me the genetics.

Answer from Grant:
The genes for Pyle Wyandottes are:
e+/e+ s+/s+ pg+/pg+ I/i+
And Mh/mh+ (segregating) as well as Di/di+

Tis a little bit outside the scope of these forums gsc  ::)

We are allotments with a bit of poultry thrown in.

You should look for a specialist poultry forum for that sort of thing me dear  ;)

as I said above joining the wyandotte club would be more suited to this sort of topic.
