Overloading Incubators
« on: June 10, 2010, 07:21 »
I have an RCom Pro 20.

Do you think I could squeeze in an extra 2 eggs if need be?  I guess they would have to sit on top/in between the others.

I wouldn't - the incubators state an amount for a reason so really you should stick with the manufacturers stated quantity.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Well I currently have 24 eggs in my Rcom 20 - 18 LF and 6 banties - it is a squeeze and I couldn't get all the dividers in (universal tray), so the eggs are all marked so I can check to make sure they are being turned properly and evenly.

I was advised not to double layer the eggs as not only do the top eggs not roll over, they can stop the bottom ones turning too.

Casey is yours a slightly older model?  I keep seeing people say theirs have dividers but mine doesn't have them.
I think maybe the older model looks like this?

whereas mine is like this (it has 3 trays)

but maybe it's as simple as putting a universal egg tray?  Actually I think the one I have just bought second hand may do - it said 'has all the splitting shelves with it '.

I was thinking that I have 4 eggs clear that should come out and 4 'unsure' so was thinking of getting 6 more eggs to replace but that will maybe be 2 spare.  I am hoping my brother will candle them againj tonight so I know for sure.  I am so impatient when I see something I want going for a song on eBay.

Lol Joyfull - too hot between 10 and 4 - we are 2 hours ahead.  So everything happens late into the early hours.  I should be napping but I can never sleep during the day.

You can buy the incubator with the universal tray (handy if you want to incubate eggs of different sizes), but I also bought the 20 egg tray separately... unfortunately the 100 large egg tray arrived instead, so I'm still waiting for my hen egg tray to arrive (fair dues to the company, they are letting me keep the large egg tray though!)

question
Incubators - which one to buy?
