Just harvested mine and they are full off Common Scab well thats what it looks like from pics I have seen.  Really disapointed, wanted to use the compost again, its in a large tub, but daren't.  Apparently they can still be eaten but I will have to peel them.  What second earlies if any do you all use.

Mostly this is caused by free lime remaining in the soil / compost.  Perhaps not in your case but worth mentioning.  I lime after potatoes rather than before brassicas.

You can peel your potatoes as you say, or simply rub off the scab with a pot scourer before cooking

I grow Kestrel & Charlotte.

You may find this useful from a nursery selling over 150 varieties. You can select first earlies, second earlies etc., resistance to eelworm, blight & scab, skin colour & see what it throws back. Or you can simply view the lot!

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

That is useful digger, the database is very informative.  Do they sell online, can't find online shop, so prob not.

Reading about common scab I think it can happen if they dry out, as well as lime. As WG said though most likely lime wasn't my problem as I used compost and nothing else.

I don't think they do, but it gives you a good description before you go searching locally.
