Last night I went out and was watching my chickens doing chickeny things (as you do
), and was very happy to see the three poulette noir chicks with their surrogate broody Rosie.
I went to the shops, and came back an hour later and there was only one chick in the pen
Neither sight nor sound of the other two
No "evidence" lying around to suggest what kind of predator, they were just... poof... gone
I'm keeping them locked in the coop today (with food and water obviously) til I can make the pen more secure.
