From what Ive heard people saying on here is that they kill the baby slugs,so the ones that would be eating your crops next year, I think people were suggesting a luiquid slug killer would work just as good

If you want to be happy for a long time - fall in love.

If you want to be happy forever - take up gardening!

They kill all the underground slugs for about 6 weeks, the ones that would be eating your lettuce during those 6 weeks
after that the population starts to recover and then you will need to apply them again.

A brilliant idea,I just wish it was a bit cheaper to buy, as it works out quite expensive for a whole summer's worth :(

dont want to hijack your thread but ive been told by a chap that if you get about 1lb of slug pellets and put them in 2 pints of water and leave them dissolve ,if you then take some of the liquid out and water it down 10 - 1 using a watering can you can spread it around your garden and its supposed to be good for killing the slugs . now im a bit dubious about this just wondered if anyone else had heard of it
If the early bird gets the worm how come the 2nd mouse to the trap gets the cheese ??

Very much doubt it would be legal / licensed for such use, irrespective of efficacy
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Wouldnt that just drench your crops in the poison that kills the slugs, surely that wouldnt do us any good

Nemaslug will provide you up 2 6 weeks protection so you will need more after applying the first time!

im not a fan of slug pellets never have been, I would prefer to have holes in my crops than have those horrible pellets everywherr  :tongue2:

I haven't used nematodes, but as this year has been so dry, so far, I've had no slug damage anyway. ..............you just never know what's coming next  :D

We've been using nematodes in the horticultural trade for a number of years now for various pests such as vine weevil etc. They all seem to work well but I often wonder about introducing one thing to eradicate another from an environmental/ethical/personal point of view.
Having said that, I wouldn't hesitate if something was eating my cabbages, to use a biological control of some sort, I'd then spend time worrying about if it was the right thing to do later
There used to be a product called "nobble" for the control of mollusc's. It was marketed as a type of contraceptive that stopped them from multiplying. I wonder why it was taken of the market? sorry, that's not relevant to this thread except to say that today's cure is tomorrow's banned product.......
