I wonder if anyone can help - I have seven hens - three White Sussex, 1 ex-batt and three Crested-Legbars.  They all flock well together and are in good health.  However, all but the three White Sussex have bare necks.  Presumably it happens in the coup at night.  Is it normal, and is there any way of stopping it?

Are you sure its a pecking problem?  Some of my girls get bare necks, but their run is chicken wire and they put their heads through the holes to peck at the grass the other side and rub their necks bare.

Are they going through moulting?
I'm in the Southern Hemisphere and unsure when they moult up your way.

Thanks for your replies.  They range freely in the garden most of the time so its not a chicken wire problem.  They had a full moult a few months ago (during the heavy snow!) and they are not losing it anywhere but their necks, so I dont think its a moult.

also check them for mites and lice.
