Cock problems on horizon
« on: June 14, 2007, 16:50 »
we were given two mums and three chicks of unknown sex around easter

soon afterwards we sensed that at least two of the chicks were lads.

this has proven right with one having his first crow a few mornings ago.

although a strangely proud moment for me, a kind of witness to a rights of passage, i also think of where this passage might lead.

hes part bantam, so just a small chappie, his crow is more a 'cock a do' - omitting the 'doodle' - and quite quiet.  Does a crow develop with maturity, at the moment it seems he has to flap his wings to generate sufficient puff to get his cock a doo out.

are part bantams quieter anyhow?

hes a fine looking boy, and i enjoy his antics, i just woory about his future (should he do A levels or get and apprenticeship :?: , will he make me a grandad? , how should i react if he were to tell me he was gay? ).

Update on Broody hen - still broody- 21 days up soon - still healthy looking, when i turf heroff hernest to encourage her to eatand drink she runs amok as if she's got 15 minutes to do a months shopping, then retires to nest again. :tongue2:
a hen is an egg's way of making another egg

Do you have neighbours who would object to his "cock a doo" early in the morning  :?:

Can you house him in a dark coop so he doesn't know the sun rises befor 7:00 am this time of year  :?:

him or you  or both could be walking the streets if your neighbours object to his cocking doing and eventualy doodling at a higher level than now so plan ahead now as there may be no vacancies at colege or any good apprentaships going when he comes of age and you have got attached to him. he will no doubt make you a grandad at somepoint if thats what you want and your feathered daughters sit for you.
jeeez i started on here as a hard hearted no nonsense no sentament poultry keeper now i am getting as daft as the rest of you lol.
good luck
