Re; question about growing in clay - ours grow brilliantly and we're pretty heavy clay - plant them after a double dig over.  Spuds do an excellent job of breaking the soil up   Should be fine - clay tends to be pretty fertile so this will help the spuds too.

Went to the allotment yesterday, we've got 17 potato plants come through, lovely and healthy looking, I am so pleased!
