We had a major flea infestation late last summer on our poor cat and in the house (i'm itchy just thinking about it!). She has always been regularly treated with Frontline, but it didn't stop the problem and we ended up having to bomb the house and treat the cat with an alternative.

Lizzie included Frontline as part of the essentials list for new chicken keepers, but I'm wondering whether I should get an alternative for use out here in France.

Has anyone used anything else that you can recommend?

I recently had a problem with Northern black mite on my hens. A farmer who has lots of hens told me to use Johnsons flea shampoo for dogs. He says it works as well as anything. Just follow the dosage for pups and immerse the hen bum first using a pot brush to get rid of as many of the bugs as poss.

hey must have been supersonic fleas as frontline has always dealt with any problems we have had ...french fleas with knuckle dusters......scarey

seriously though, are you sure you followed the instructions to the letter, or was it out of date, or possibly even fake?

I'm pretty sure there was no other reason for the failure of my frontline than tough fleas

Is the Frontline to protect the chickens against fleas or other nasties?

Ive found it works for all crawlies including scaly leg mite
