Runner bean in living room
« on: May 06, 2010, 12:11 »
Hi,

For a laugh, I have been growing a runner bean on the windowsill of my living room. It has climbed up the curtains to the ceiling, and is flowering nicely.
However, I read an article last night that suggested that without a bee, my flowers will just die and not produce a bean.
Is this correct?
Thanks
Steve

yes runners need pollination french don't

you can be the bee though, small paintbrush and gently brush over every flower to spread the pollen between them, as far as I am aware they don't need pollen from a different plant

They are self fertile.  They just need a honey bee or a bumblebee or a paint brush
