disinfecting coops
« on: May 01, 2010, 16:02 »
Hi, can anyone tell me if it's safe to disinfect chicken coops with Jeyes fluid? my husband went ahead and disinfected our unused coop with Jeyes and i'm worried about putting young birds in there in case the disinfectant is not safe for them? HELP!!

It depends on how carefully it was diluted. If used according to directions, it will be fine. Undiluted it will burn skin, eyes etc. Phenols are toxic, but only if swallowed (how many people have swallowed their TCP?). Remember the old days when hospitals smelled of Jeye's? Funny how we didn't have MRSA .
If he splashed it in without care and you're concerned, then just rinse it out. HTH

Thankyou very much for your replies! looks like our broody and chicks will be going in there fairly soon.

Have removed the other part of this post as you have started a new topic with exactly the same in it, this way people won't answer the same thing twice  :)
