I also found a papery nest thing inside an unused all winter coop  and the size of the wasp that was buzzing around was fairly scary too.

I havent checked if its back yet  :tongue2:
I love Pekins, Polands and Seramas :) and eggs!!!

scary feeling aint it , i dont mind wasps as such but since i got attacked by them from disturbing a nest i now give them respect , having  15 or more stings to the head an face aint much fun and i dont want to go though that again or even have my girls stung .

Physical removal is the only safe way as dead wasps can sting and insecticidal powders have their own hazards to the chooks. Late evening is the best time when they are cold and sleepy. Treating the woodwork with normal preservative will help and a wasp trap (jar + water + jam) might be useful if you have flying wasp problems. Don't use quick-knock-down flykillers to protect yourself- the pyrethrins make insects more active and aggressive. Wear a hat, not just for the wasps, but to reduce the bruising when you jump back and bang your head on the roof  :D.

We found wasps trying to build a nest against a fence panel.  After removing it and cleaning the area they came back.  We tried scorching it - they came back.  The only way we found to get rid of them was to use a wasp / Bee nest remover from a supermarket. That worked really weel.  However, I doubt it would be friendly to the chooks unless you had somewhere else to house them for a day or two whilst you sprayed the inside of the house.
