1st seed leaves
« on: April 28, 2010, 15:43 »
A number of my seeds now have 4 or 5 proper leaves, do I nip off the original leaves or do the die away in their own time?

They die when they have served their purpose, no need to touch them :)

If it is toms your talking about take the seed leaves off if it makes you feel good. :D

I always do especially if i`m potting them on extra deep. I work on the principle that if they are removed they cannot go mouldy.

I am fairly hard on the tom plants and any branches or leaves damaged or growing in the wrong direction get removed.

Aside from the blight toms are fairly resilient plants. :)

If you are talking about toms and have got your 1st true leaves (or more) then you are prob ready to pot them on.

That will give you something to do this evening.  :)

I always assumed that the seed leaves supply thingys to growth upwards and downwards. I have a reason for this. My bean seed leaves are just green bean cotyledons and they shrink when the plant grows and gets more roots. so would leave it to the nature to wither them down
One kid is handful. Two kids.... Example for chaos theory. Hats off to my mum who managed three...
