First timer - hens beaks
« on: April 24, 2010, 17:10 »
We have just got 3 hens today, a Warren, a Black Rock and a Bluebell.
My question is about beaks! The bluebell seems to have a very long bottom part to her beak compared to the top! The Warren's beak is the same length top and bottom and the Black Rock is slightly longer below. Is it normal to have a much longer bottom part?

Panicky new owner I know!

on the ones with longer bottom beaks does it look like the top beaks have been clipped? Some breeders do this to stop them pecking each other (my rescue hens have had this done). So long as they can eat their feed ok they should be ok  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.

I don't think it has been clipped by the breeder. The hen is eating and drinking OK as far as I can see. I will keep an eye on her though.
Thanks for the advice.
