hens can do the odd sneeze if some dust etc has got in their nostrils but if it is more then it could be the start of a respiritory infection. If they have had mycoplasma then stress can trigger this off (as you say you are new to this I am assuming that you have only just got them so this will be a stressfull time for them). Keep a close eye on them and if they start with bubbly eyes, snotty nostrils, swollen sinuses, or rattly chests then get them to a vet as they may need some antibiotics.
Likewise the egg and broken egg together could have been due to the new home situation making the hens abdominal muscles tense up (a bit like cramp) so the first egg couldn't get out (egg bound) and luckily the second egg pushed it out.
Staffies are softer than you think.

ok many thanks, it sounds like there is some minor wheezing coming from the chest. I think I will be pro active and take it to the vet just in case!

if antibiotics are prescribed then you will need to treat all the girls that was with her and depending on which A/B given this will depend on how long you have to chuck away the eggs. Please make sure you check with your vet regarding this  :)

One of our girls was very snotty, ruttly and frothy eyes  a few days ago...went to a specialist vet (recomended by our "ordinary" vet).  Swabs were taken and she was given 2 injections..one antibiotic, one anti inflamatory...I then had to give the same two things for the following 2 days.  all the ducks and hens are having the same antibiotic in their water and all seem ok...the poorly hen looked back to normal in 24 hours.

such a pain and seems such a waste to discard the eggs...I feel so guilty throwing them in the bin.  The vet said for 7 days after treatment ended, so 2 weeks in all!
