Hi all

I can recollect my grandad saying wood ash is good for the garden but can't remember how he used it - do you apply it direct to the soil? prior to which veg? or fruit bushes? or do you add it to the compost heap?Is it the same as potash or am i being daft?? Can anyone advise? ??? ???

Wood ash is rich in potassium salts, but will make your soil alkaline.

fresh wood ash is great for fruit,and also improves drainage

I have a bin of wood ash can i use on my new veg patch and on flower beds. My soil is full of lime stone the stuff that makes your water hard will that benefit it? Thanks JB
