I have inhereted a raised bed of aspargus which is about 5 years old. I have checked the PH level and it is 6! How do I raise the PH level to that recommended on the web and in books and without potentially damaging the crowns? Is a PH level of 6 okay, do I need to raise it if so when and how?

You need to apply some lime. If you put it on now and work it into the surface it will not harm the asparagus. It will not act immediately. Test again in the Autumn and apply some more if needed.

Asparagus may prefer a sweeter soil but it'll grow anywhere in anything. You should see all the asparagus growing wild in ditches where I live, and no one does a thing to them and they're huge bushes. As long as yours get some water and weeding, they'll be happy in almost anything.

Thank you for the advice. My main concern was that any lime applied directly to the soil with the Asparagus already planted may have damaged them.
I have applied the lime and will test again in the Autumn.
