By cutting it you leave the stalk open for infection etc, by pulling it the whole stalk comes up with very little risk, also pulling stimulates growth where as cutting don't.

I'd forgotten than pulling could be so stimulating!

ooh I am off to pull some rhubarb, it was it's first year in the ground last year so had to just watch it grow but this year rhubarb crumble, chutney and may be even some jam......... scrummy

I pulled my first rhubarb on Saturday and made a very yummy rhubarb and custard cake. Not sure what varieties we've got, as we inherited them from various sources, but one plant seems to be an early one as it is huge already, and the other two must be later ones, as they're only a couple of inches tall with about one stalk!!
