Waverex Petit pois
« on: April 23, 2010, 09:30 »
Hi,
I have these in which were sown direct and although they have come through they are patchy and a bit sparse in places.
What I want to do is get some more on the go at home then transplant them to fill the gaps. I have just put the rest of the pack in a bowl of water to soak but was wondering how long to soak them for?
I was then going to sow in a seed tray. How long should I expect this process to take i.e how long until I could plant them out? Is it worth doing in anyones opinion?

I would soak over night, then pot into either a seed tray or paper pots. After a couple of weeks they should be big enough to plant in any gaps you have.
I was put on this earth to accomplish a certain number of things; right now I am so far behind I will never die.

Is there a particular reason that you can't just sow them direct into the gaps, it would save a lot of faffing around ;).....just a thought :)

Ah - No reason really, I just thought I might get them up quicker. Now they are soaking away, do you just put the soaked peas straight in?

I had to do that last year with peas.  As the area was netted I figured that it had to have been mice that took some of the first batch.  The ones I planted in pots to fill the spaces soon caught up with those planted directly in the ground.

yes, unless as Debz says you think it may be mice :( then I would go for sowing them in containers.

I guess it could be mice. I will have a little poke in the soil tonight when I go up to water and see if they are still there or if they have been munched!  >:(

Hi,
I've been sowing Waverex this year.  I do have mice around on the plot so I sowed them quite deep and I'd say they've probably nearly all come up.  Maybe that has helped?
