If it that shaded you will have problems, also i imagine it can be quite dry in the summer.

Your landlord is under no obligation to prune the trees unless they are diseased or dangerous.

The easiest way to kill conifers, as anyone in the trade can tell you, is to drive two or three long copper nails or rods into them at the base. The copper bars set up a negative electric gradient with the ground, and stop the sap rising up the tree, killing it. Its also practically undetectable,  unless you chop the tree down at the point you nailed it.

The copper nail story is a complete falacy and does not kill tree's. Yes, i was in the trade ;)

Also, it is illegal, the trees are the property of the landlord and as such willingly killing or damaging them is criminal damage.

Assuming your trees don't take up all the garden space choose the sunniest possible area as far away from them as possible and you should be fine!  :)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older
