6X MANURE
« on: March 26, 2010, 15:24 »
Good afternoon everyone, I was just wondering if anyone uses 6x on their allotment for the vegetables.  We took on our plot last august and didn`t manage to get down as much horse manure as we would of liked.  Would it be ok to use now,  we have a plot 10 rods, hav`nt got a clue what that is in square feet. I will not be using it on carrot bed as they are already planted.  I have used 6x in my back garden for the past 3 years for flowers and shrubs with great results.  Thanks Mandy.

Can you buy it in the garden centre or only online? I'd like to try it, am sick of all the weed seedlings in the horse poo from my local stables  :( I've got enough weeds at the plot as it is

Hi Nipper, yes you can buy it on line if you google 6x manure different sites sell it, Ive had a look and a few of them do an offer of the more bags you buy of it the less you pay, maybe if you don`t need too many you could ask round and see if anyone else you know wants some that way it will work out cheaper for all of you.  Personally I get it from a garden centre called Grafty Green, last year when I purchased it for my flowers etc. in the garden I got it for £17.00 for 3 bags.  I don`t know how much it will be this year tho. 6X - as in Wadsworth 6X?   ...........

Whenever I see 6X manure I think of Wadworth's. Always imagine it is special manure supplied only by the shire horses from the Wadworth's brewery.  Brings back memories of walking to school in Devizes and seeing the shire horses leaving the brewery.

6x has been around for years so it must be good stuff, it's organic I understand  :)

Get it from your local allotment society shop  :)  We have it in ours and I'm going to get some myself as it sounds such good stuff.

I've seen them at the 3 Counties and Royal Shows - they are a lovely team!  There aren't many breweries left with their own working horses in the UK - Hooky is another - and Bradfield.  Tetley's used to have a team, but they retired them some years ago.  Likewise Fullers.  Whitbread Shires went many moons ago.  Sad, isnt it?  But with the green agenda maybe we will see more of them in the future.   :)

Anheuser-Busch (just had to check the spelling of them) Clydesdale teams are wonderful in the States, with the attendant dalmatians.  I wonder if they could run to bringing them over for a summer ....  perhaps to celebrate the re-opening of the Brewery Museum?  Now there is a thought ...
