Hi there I got my 2 girls last weekend 1 brown lohman called Mavis and 1 amber link caled Madge. Madge has laid me an egg 5 out of 7 days but Mavis hasn't laid any.
Anything I can do to encourage her?

no she will lay when she is good and ready and not before (some girls never ever lay but that is quite rare). How old is she?

We think just over a year old.

Hi, I got my girls last weekend too.  They are 20 weeks and all they do is eat me out of house and home and make me laugh - not an egg to be seen.

Hopefully they will start eventually!

like joyfull says when shes good and ready,we have four and three of them lay like clockwork every day but one refuses to lay ,although she does go in the nestbox with the others but doesn't seem to take the hint

I have 5 hens and two only started laying 4 weeks ago aged about 30 weeks !  Then another followed and finally 4 are now laying most days.  The 5th one started going into the nest box about 6 weeks or so ago and she sits there and makes a few noises and she sits and eventually comes out.  She hasn't laid an egg so far and she is now about 34 weeks old.  She was named Mrs Pickle at the beginning as she was always complaining and making noises and I just wonder if she is ever going to lay but to be honest even if she doesn't it won't matter.  She is such a character.

I have been worried about my three girls the last couple of weeks
like carols 'same age got the same time ' have been laying since the snow went'
the black star has just stopped the deranged leghorn has only laid
2 in the last 12 days... i am mystified 'the fat an wonderful light sussex
is the only one i can rely on  ...anyone know why ?  thanks.....
