Did anyone see last nights news about how the government are considering lifting the ban on feeding animal protein to farm animals?

Apparently they want to feed protein from pigs to chickens and vice versa :!:

The ban was introduced after BSE. Will they never learn. If they go ahead I'm sure the next humanly manufactured disease will be along soon.

Could put more people off buying battery eggs though.

More likely to put me off buying pork actually.  At least chickens are naturally omnivorous ... Exhibit A ... http://www.chat.allotment-garden.org/viewtopic.php?t=5300

IMHO, the real danger comes from messing with the diets of ruminants.

I know - hence my comment re ruminants.  But I have made a mental note of your expertise in this area.

Thanks for the link WG but 'naturally omnivorous' for chickens means insects, worms, the occasional frog and such like. In the natural world I don't suppose there have been many occasions when chickens have managed to chase and kill a pig :!:  :!:

joking apart, its frightening how short sighted the powers that be can get...I`m no vet but are things that bad that pigs/chickens can only make a profit when fed mechanically recovered remains of each other?
