"pre-mixed" cheshunt compound -- ok to keep?
« on: March 14, 2010, 19:08 »
having had some probs with damping off, I've decided to try using Cheshunt compound on my seed compost before sowing. being my first time, i followed the measurements on the packet - and made 2 pints of the stuff.
of which, I have at least a pint left over!  ??? i've poured it all back into a water bottle - will it keep? i'll be sowing and potting on next weekend, so wondered whether it'll be alright to use up the mix then?

thanks!

I think the normal advice is only to use it fresh but I have tins from two different suppliers and it doesn't say so on either of them. You are only keeping it for a short while and it sounds like you have sealed it up in a plastic bottle so I think it will be fine. It won't do any harm but may do less good, if you see what I mean.

Should be OK unless the made-up mixture changes its appearance (particularly if it forms a solid precipitate).

(Would be best kept in the dark in the 'fridge if your domestic "arrangements" allow!)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!
