I think I might have to rename myself as the Chicken hypercondriac, but today I decided to look up the yawning-like actions and the head shaking my light sussex seems to do quite constantly. On the internet i found out that these are symptoms of gapeworm. Is there anything I can do, so I know for sure? As well as this are there any natural remedies/things i can do as i don't own any worming equipment?

Have you had a feel at your chickens crop, if it feels "squidgy" massage it gently she could have some long grass etc in there which makes the chickens yawn and shake their heads.

Hi, i use alot of natural remerdies for immune system and wounds etc. Things like pumpkin seeds are really good for helping to prevent things, but if your girl has gape it will kill her without prompt treatment.suffocating from worms in your throat is not a good way to go . one of my hens arrived with gape and i used flubenvet wit excellent results. although not herbal, it is very gentle with no egg withdrawal. worms of any kind can make our girls really poorly dispite using things like honey or wounds, garlic for immunity, parsley for calcium etc i worm 2-3 times a year with flubenvet
