Hi guys,

I would like to order some asparagus crowns asap and I am looking for some advice on recommended varieties and possibly a recommended website to buy them from.

I'm looking to get 10 crowns.

It's often said that all-male plants produce the best spears, but then again there are all-male F1 varieties which produce thick spears, and some which produce thin ones!

Have a look at this RHS article, which explains the difference and suggests a few named varieties.

(Mine are a mixture of at least 3 different types and I can't remember which is which!) 

Googling your choice should bring up plenty of options as to where to buy.

An experianced asparagus farmer in Suffolk says he can't tell the difference in taste between the varieties and has been growing for 20 yrs. (KG 2006ish).

He suggests one of the Dutch varieties (all end in 'lim')
