Hi everyone, have had my greenhouse for the 2nd summer and veg plot for the 1st. was wondering about making my own compost for growing greenhouse toms in next year. what are everyones thoughts on using well rooted horse manure topped up with spent compost from my tubs and baskets ? I can dedicate a full size compost bin for this purpose and leave to break down over this winter ready to use next year any thoughts ?

Sounds good to me. The manure will help with water retention and the compost will help like soil wouild to give it substance.

I use home-made compost for all my greenhouse crops in containers and it works fine.

Mine is a mixture of composted waste, leaf-mould, fine soil and the stuff from cheap grow-bags.

You will need to feed them once the fruit are formed and for this i use a home-made seaweed feed with an occasional top up with proprietary tomato fertilizer. End result....more toms, cukes and peppers than we can eat
