can anyone tell me about using chicken poo on my allotment? I get lots of chicken poo mixed with fine wood shavings from my eight hens.

can it go straight onto the soil or should I let it mature - how long? or does it need to be dug in?

It needs to be composted for 9 - 12 months before applying to your plot. Chicken poo is high in nitrogen and good for leafy veg like brassicas. Wood shavings can be a problem that is explained on previous threads. I would dig the rotted compost in late Autumn ready for spring planting.

Probably best to mix other compost materials with the chicken poo in order to get a well balanced compost.
