Bedding for Ducks
« on: May 29, 2007, 22:16 »
What would other Duck keepers reccomend as a bedding for ducks, I have mine on hay but I can't keep up with it.  I have to change it everyday as it gets so wet.  I have tried shavings but they are not a lot better

They have a concrete floor in their house so its too cold to leave it bare

thanks

Try wheat straw or even oil seed rape straw.  Both are coarse and hard wearing.

It'll last a lot longer if floor is raised, e.g. straw on top of pallets.

Yes, solid topped pallets, or a layer of Teram.  Remember to put down rat bait.  http://www.chat.allotment-garden.org/viewtopic.php?p=30200#30200

Terram is a geotextile fabric, a bit like weed control fabric but stronger, I believe it's woven.  Used by the building trade when laying things like gravel drives for stabilising the ground.Heres a link to give you an idea.

thanks for the info

I thought you weren't supposed to keep ducks in with chickens as they are too noisy and make too much mess?
